BIO
A solid grounding in numbers, gained while studying Economics at high school, has stood Swedish Team PokerStars Pro player William Thorson in good stead, as he now regularly sits down at the world’s toughest poker tournaments. Thorson got his start in the game with some help from his father, and with that solid backing, he has gone on to forge a successful career.
Fifth on the all-time tournament money list for Swedish players, Thorson has $1,878,971 in total career winnings, courtesy of in-the-money finishes at all of the world’s top events, including the World Series of Poker*, World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour.
The World Series has been a prosperous hunting ground for Thorson, and he has cashed on four occasions, twice in 2006 and twice in 2007. 2006 was a particularly good year for the Swede when he narrowly missed out on the final table of the biggest poker tournament ever staged. Thorson finished 13th, from a field of 8,773, in the $10,000 World Championship No Limit Hold’em Main Event, for a $907,128 payday.
The PokerStars European Poker Tour is an equally profitable arena for Thorson, who is regular feature of the tour, cashing on three occasions and making two final table appearances. These final tables came in Season 3 in Dublin, and in Season 4 in San Remo, while the third cash came at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in Season 4. Thanks to these excellent results, Thorson sits in 46th position in the all-time EPT money winners list, with $574,467.
Thorson also takes his aggressive style online at PokerStars, playing both high stakes tournaments and winning big money in Omaha cash games.
Thorson enjoys all of the trappings that come with life on the international poker circuit, but away from the tables he enjoys horse-trotting, co-owning several horses in his native Sweden. He also enjoys playing sports and socializing with friends.
He is a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online using the screen name ‘William’.
